I
In my work, with regard to the caricature paintings, I'm trying to show the persona as well as the actual personality of the subject and I'm striving to get to the psychology of them in the same way that traditional portraiture does. At times the style may change a bit according to the subject and how I might respond to them as well. I'm interested in exploring the physiogn-omy of my subject and revealing something that can't always be readily seen.
With regard to the more concept-driven paintings, I had no intent initially, but I usually discover it's meaning afterwards. Working in a stream-of consciousness" type of way allows the subconscious to take over somewhat, and hopefully uncovers something about myself that I couldn't have planned otherwise.
I'll also do landscape paintings on occasion, when I get a chance, and it evokes a meditative state where I try to experience a connection with the natural world.
