Sarah P. Rose

I have always loved art. As a child, I went to every museum in NYC. I was drawn to abstract art because of the vibrant colors as well as for the lack there of. Romero Bearden, Faith Ringgold, Pablo Picasso and William de Koenig are some of my favorite artists.

In all of the museums I visited, I couldn’t find artwork depicting ordinary black people doing ordinary things. I felt there was such magic in beauty shops, diners and church scenes. So, those are the images I like to create. The black community and families are common themes in my art.

I enjoy working with acrylics, collage and oil pastels. Art soothes me and excites me at the same time.
