Kristen Memmolo

My art is inspired by nature, urban and industrial decay, religion, vintage fashion and burlesque dancers. I try to find beauty in things some may find grotesque. I see art in the decay of all we have on this earth, as nature slowly reclaims it as her own. Things forgotten and left behind inspires me.

My approach to art is to experiment with mixed media using multiple styles to create something truly unique. My work is layered with photography, paint, encaustic wax, metal, welded frames and whatever else I find to make the piece interesting.

I didn’t want a purchased frame… so I asked my father to teach me how to weld. With his instruction I was able to incorporate this process as well, and the welding became an integral part of my art. I wanted the whole piece to be art, even the frame itself.
