Donna Davies-Timm

Donna Davies Timm, a native of and current resident of South Wales, UK, is a textile artist who lived and worked in New York for 25 years.

Donna studied Surface Pattern and Textiles at Cumbria University, UK, specializing in Tapestry Weaving. Post-university, she worked as a full-time artist as part of a UK Government supported "Cottage Industry." She produced tapestries for Carlisle Cathedral, Southern England County Council as well as private commissions. She has exhibited work in the Royal Academy of Art, London, and many public and private textile focused galleries throughout England. Since she emigrated to the USA, Donna has challenged and expanded her creativity into other forms of textile art: designing, constructing and embellishing customized garments and costumes for historical re-enactment, theater and performance. Since relocating to Nyack, Donna found herself drawn to the art of free motion machine embroidery and has used her natural sewing ability to transform threads and fabric into "paintings".

My creativity is expressed in the manipulation of textiles and free-style machine embroidery. Each piece is unique and completely created by me, without computerized machine pre-programming. I create organically, piecing together a selection of both natural and synthetic materials and threads.” Donna was a founding member of the Nyack Art Collective, and served as the Director from 2014 to 2021.
